Pidy Launch new take on Student Catering Challenge
10 October 2019
Following on from the huge success of the ’Revamp the Vol-au-vent‘ Student Challenge which ran for the last two years, Pidy is delighted to introduce a new take on the competition. Aimed at catering and hospitality students within the UK, the new Pidy Student Catering Challenge gives students the opportunity to explore more products from the Pidy range, whilst putting their skills to the test and pushing their creative ability even further.
Designed to provide catering students with a challenging, yet innovative culinary competition, the Pidy Student Catering Challenge invites students to reinvent the classic tradition of afternoon tea, using a selection of tartlets from the Pidy range. Students can take inspiration from classic literature or the latest catwalk trends and everything in between to create their own take on afternoon tea.
The Pidy ’Revamp the Vol-au-vent‘ Student Challenge was introduced so that students could think outside the box and reinvent the vol-au-vent. Now, Pidy’s aim is to see how the students interpret a new brief, whilst experimenting with a selection of different Pidy tartlets in various shapes, sizes and styles. The competition is part of Pidy’s ongoing commitment to inspiring the next generation of chefs, whilst providing a platform where they can demonstrate their passion and talent.
The students will be required to submit a written report explaining their concept complete with method, ingredients and photos. A panel will then assess the menu concepts in the reports and choose the seven best entries. All will be invited to attend a Grand Final Cook-Off, taking place at The Claire Clark Pastry Academy at Milton Keynes College, on Friday 24th January 2020 at 12.00pm. Students will be required to cook live and present their dish to the panel of industry professionals to win the title of Best Afternoon tea. Top internationally renowned Pastry Chef and TV judge, Claire Clark MBE will return to the panel for a third year running.
The winner will be awarded a lunchtime meal for two at Belmond Le Manoir aux Quat’Saisons, £200 worth of catering vouchers and a prestigious trophy.
Robert Whittle, Managing Director at Pidy UK, isdelighted to launch the new competition:
“After two fantastic years of the Pidy ‘Revamp the Vol-au-vent’ catering challenge, we wanted to shake things up and provide an exciting new opportunity. The new Pidy Student Catering Challenge allows students to get creative with even more products from the Pidy range, as well as practice a different skill set and push their creativity further. Afternoon tea is a classic tradition that everyone loves, so it will be great to see the innovative ways in which they choose to reinvent it. Witnessing first-hand how rewarding these types of experiences are, it was an obvious decision to launch this new take on the competition and we hope the students get just as much out of it as from previous years!”
